The Part-Time Consecutive BEd program runs over a three year period. Courses and practicum are taken with the Concurrent BEd teacher candidates. Specialized program options (Jewish Teacher Education, Indigenous Teacher Education, French Immersion, and Summer Science) are available to a Part-Time Consecutive BEd applicant. The Primary/Junior – ECE option is not available on a part-time basis. Applicants cannot apply to the Part-Time Consecutive BEd and request a transfer into the Full-Time Consecutive BEd.
The three-year Part-Time Consecutive BEd program offers the Primary/Junior, Junior/Intermediate, and Intermediate/Senior certification levels. Students must be available for daytime courses, which can be spread over timeslots throughout the week, and practicum placements - one full weekday per week plus continuous teaching blocks in May. Applicants cannot find their own placements. The Faculty of Education is able to offer a few evening classes each year and an online course for the community practicum in the first year of the program. Classes take place on York’s Keele campus or, in the case of the BEd (French) program option, at the Glendon campus.
Applicants should proceed with the regular TEAS application for York University to Primary/Junior (Y10), Junior/Intermediate (Y20) or Intermediate/Senior (Y30) and, if interested in any of the specialized options, it should be noted on York’s Supplementary Information Form.
