The Access Initiative - Valuing Your Experience

York University’s Faculty of Education Access Initiative is designed to recruit, admit and support individuals who will make excellent teachers and who reflect the diversity in our society. Our admissions policies are designed to assess the potential of all candidates, in particular those who have faced systemic barriers in educational settings and in their lives. Access invites students from the following underrepresented groups to apply as a part of this initiative:

Aboriginal (First Nations, Métis, Inuit, Status, Non-Status, Aboriginal Ancestry)
People with Disabilities
Racialized Person (A racialized person may experience social inequities on the basis of their perceived common racial background, colour and/or ethnicity, or faith and who may be subjugated to differential treatment in society and its institutions. Examples may include: people of African descent, people of Asian descent, Latinos)
Other Minoritized Person (please specify other identity categories that apply to you and have affected your educational experience . For example: working class/low income; sexual orientation; English Language Learner, Refugee or impacted by the refugee experience)

Graduates earn a Bachelor of Education degree and are recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers for an Ontario Certificate of Registration.

Concurrent and Consecutive Programs

Choosing your path

You can earn your BEd degree in one of two ways. In the concurrent program, you can pursue an undergraduate degree at the same time as a BEd. If you have already completed an undergraduate degree, you qualify to study in the full or part-time consecutive program.
