About the Faculty of Education

York University's Faculty of Education is one of the largest in Ontario with approximately 6000 students enrolled in all of its programs.

The Faculty is committed to providing a rigorous, multifaceted and provocative learning experience for pre-service and practicing teachers. Its faculty and graduate students are engaged in innovative scholarly work designed to enhance understanding of the theory and practice of education. The principles and themes that infuse the Faculty's programs include equity, diversity, community, collaboration, interdisciplinarity and social justice.

Pre-service (Bachelor of Education) students prepare for teaching careers either through a three-year concurrent program or a one-year consecutive program. Within the concurrent program students have an option to take the BEd (French) or Jewish Teacher Education program. Graduate students pursuing Masters or Doctoral degrees select from a rich array of specialized areas of study. In collaboration with school boards, the Office of Research and Field Development offers Additional Qualification (AQ/ABQ) and a Principal's Qualification Program (PQP) for educators in face-to-face, partially on-line, and fully on-line formats. The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Program prepares teachers to work in a variety of educational programs and across the full range of communication/modality options. The Faculty's international programs connect students, professors and other educators to a global educational community.
